André GIDEAmyntasMercure de France|Paris 1906|11 x 16.50 cm|broché sous chemise et étuiEdition partly original and printed 350 copies on laid Arches paper, "Roadmaps" being published previously.Precious autograph signed Gide to Maurice Barres. The dedication that the young Gide addresses his prestigious elder on this collection of travel notes proves to be more than just respectful salutation to the "guru" of French Letters since 1880.Like many other young writers, Gide - bars that introduced early in the circle of Mallarmé - is his literary debut in the "consecration of authority" that represents Maurice Barres, whose intellectual and literary authority at the turn of the twentieth century continues to grow.Yet in 1906, when Barres has been named Academician, Gide is poised to become the new leader of the literary youth, thanks in part to his opposition to the hitherto undisputed master. In 1898 Gide is respectfully but firmly takes the Barres authority by publishing his criticism of Uprooted in the Hermitage. The first lines repeatedly cited in this article are celebrating the journey and "the joy it would be to no longer feel fasteners, roots (...)". Genet thus poses the premises of ethical and aesthetic excluding new political ideology of the literary field only "keep one and true authority, that of the quality and talent" (cf. Dubosson in Fabien L literary authority to test herself)Major event of the literary history of the twentieth century, this irreverence made ??by one we now appoint anti-Barres, justly opposes the love of travel and curiosity of mind, such as the narrator of the Earth boards the teaches Nathanael, infertility rooting advocated by Barres.Gide's article marks the beginning of the famous "quarrel Poplar" that confront the Charles Maurras, Barres's leader, but to be attended by many writers.Published in 1903 in Pretext, this controversy marks the divide between the two schools, one claiming the legacy of Barres, the other in standing out by constant opposition, which concluded in 1921 with the symbolic murder of the father through the Barres fictitiously famous trial brought by Dada. The "Friendly" autograph dedication of the author Gide address Barres on these notes that "enhance the beauty of the journey" is without doubt the testimony of a disciple of deference towards his master. But this "memory" is also the mark of a new authority with the creation of the NRF, will sign the late Barres and Gide early years.Back slightly discolored, glued a small tear in the foot a bit.Our copy is presented in brown morocco shirt in half, back with five nerves rubbed slightly, the same jacket lined morocco, all signed by Pierre-Lucien Martin.Sold
