    Full red morocco binding, spine with five raised bands set with black fillets, spine very slightly darkened, date and place gilt at center of spine, gilt roulettes on headcaps, combed paper endpapers and pastedowns, sextuple gilt fillets framing the pastedowns, illustrated cover with Ryckebusch vignette preserved, all edges gilt, double gilt fillets on leading edges, magnificent binding signed by Marius Michel.
    Three small black spots on the back cover.
    Handsome copy perfectly executed in a full morocco binding by Marius Michel, one of the most talented and prestigious binders of the 20th century.

    First edition illustrated with a frontispiece and 24 etchings on chine collé by Félicien Rops and Emile Thérond (the frontispiece and 18 of the vignettes are indeed by Rops).
    Contemporary half brown shagreen binding. Spine with raised bands decorated with fillets. Some rubbing. 2 corners slightly bumped.
    One of Auguste Poulet-Malassis's first productions in Brussels, the F. Rops frontispiece is a heliogravure reworked with etching and drypoint.
    Monograph of all Parisian balls, a fashion particularly followed by all social classes at the time.

    Half bordeaux shagreen binding, spine with five raised bands set with black fillets decorated with the gilt monogram of the great bibliophile Roger de Cormenin repeated five times, gilt date at foot, faded turquoise morocco title label, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, top edge gilt retaining deckled edges.
    Provenance: from the library of Roger de Cormenin, son of Louis de Cormenin who was the confidant and secretary of Théophile Gautier and also the intimate friend of Gustave Flaubert.
    A handsome copy.
