Published the same year as the first edition. Handsome autograph inscription from Alphonse Daudet to Hector Giacomelli. Tiny foxing, not serious, to head of spine and some leaves, otherwise a good copy.

First edition on ordinary paper, with only 45 Japan copies on deluxe paper. Bradel binding in blue half-cloth, smooth spine very slightly faded decorated with a gilt floral motif, gilt fillet at foot, chocolate shagreen title-label with minor traces of rubbing, marbled paper boards, covers (with three small marginal tears repaired) preserved, contemporary binding. Work illustrated with 24 illustrations by H. Laurent-Desrousseaux.
