    First edition, first issue, exhibiting all the bibliographical points recorded by Cohen-de Ricci (nos. 769–772): an engraved frontispiece, three dedication plates, four title ornaments, thirty vignettes and a final tailpiece, together with one hundred and forty full-page illustrations, including the frontispiece, numbered 2 to 140 and distributed 48, 33, 37 and 22 across the four volumes. The illustrations are after designs by Boucher, Eisen, Gravelot, Le Prince, Monnet and Moreau, and engraved by, among others, Baquoy, Basan, Binet, Duclos and de Ghendt.     First printing (with the error « comteese » to line 12 on page 360 of volume VI) of this illustrated edition with a portrait by Coypel engraved by Lepicié, a fleuron on the title repeated for each volume, 33 figures by François Boucher engraved by Laurent Cars, and 198 vignettes and tail-pieces (several repeated) by Boucher, Blondel and Oppenord, engraved by Cars and Joullain.
