Jacques Gabriel Paul Michel Benoist-Méchin, né le 1er juillet 1901 à Paris 17e, et mort le 24 février 1983 dans la même ville, est un intellectuel, journaliste, historien, musicologue et homme politique français. Collaborateur pendant l'occupation, il fut condamné à mort en 1947 puis gracié. Il avait oeuvré à la création d'une « nouvelle Europe » avec le pouvoir nazi et était considéré comme un ultra de la collaboration au sein du Régime de Vichy. Il est connu pour son travail prolifique d'historien, ses anticipations des grands mouvements de l'Histoire ainsi que par sa connaissance du monde arabe. Il a publié pendant l'entre-deux-guerres une Histoire de l'armée allemande, puis, après-guerre, une série de grandes biographies intitulée Le Rêve le plus long de l'histoire.Reconnu comme un spécialiste de l’Orient, grâce à des livres comme Mustapha Kémal ou la mort d’un empire (1954), Ibn-Séoud ou la naissance d’un royaume (1955) ou Un printemps arabe (1959), il a été l’invité, l’interlocuteur ou l’ami de nombreux dirigeant arabes de l’après-guerre.

    Fold mark inherent to postal delivery, a small tear in the right margin of the letter at the fold level.
    Jacques Benoist-Méchin shows himself honored by the attention he arouses in his correspondent: "Vous avez dû recevoir un petit mot de Monsieur Esmenard vous exposant mon point de vue au sujet de la suggestion si flatteuse que vous m'aviez faite." but he feels...
