Illustrated edition with an atlas of 50 finely watercolored figures and approximately 700 small black figures in the text. Publisher's gauffered navy cardboard bindings. Smooth spines richly decorated. Covers ornamented with a bouquet of flowers on the boards and a wide blind frame. Gilt edges. Upper board of the second volume slightly warped by humidity (the gilt on this board is faded). A light dampstain across all volumes in the upper margin, more pronounced on the first leaves of volume 1 (framing the entire page) then fading. Scattered browning on the second volume, mainly at the beginning. Despite the mentioned defects, a handsome-looking copy in publisher's boards. Le Maout, a naturalist, had specialized in teaching botany through various works. The particular interest of this one being to give a scientific description of most of all the common plants known to everyone.
