Contemporary full red shagreen binding, smooth spine decorated with gilt and blind fillets, boards framed with double gilt fillets, with a frame of arabesques in the corners and a central fleuron with the arms of Pius IX, gilt dentelles framing the pastedowns, all edges gilt.
Endpapers and pastedowns blackened.
