Le Chancellor, initially published in 1874 is a maritime adventure novel inspired by the raft of the medusa. Martin Paz is set in Peru. One of Verne's only titles dealing with discourse on races and hatred of mixed race, the hero being an Indian in love with a Jewish woman.
