Fine autograph inscription signed by Jean Paulhan to the graphic designer, typographer, illustrator, layout artist, and writer Robert Massin known as Massin: "Jai beau m'appliquer au cours d'une vie déjà longue, je ne suis pas encore parvenu à dégager le détail essentiel qui doit séparer l'état de guerre de l'état de paix (Tchouang-Tseu VI.) Pour monsieur Massin, amicalement. Jean Paulhan." (Despite applying myself throughout an already long life, I have not yet managed to identify the essential detail that must separate the state of war from the state of peace (Zhuangzi VI.)
