The first edition, of which there were no deluxe copies. Spine and boards slightly and marginally yellowed and foxed, front endpaper shaded due to the presence of a newspaper clipping. Fine autograph inscription signed by André Salmon, paying tribute to Victor Hugo, to his close friend the Provençal writer, caricaturist and filmmaker Carlo Rim who was notably the friend of Fernandel, Raimu and Marcel Pagnol but also of Max Jacob: "A toi Carlo Rim, pour toi Aice, ma chanson des rues et des bois fourrée d'un art d'être grand-père. En embrassant Alice et Carlo. André Salmon La Hune (qui les attend) Mars 1968" ["To you Carlo Rim, for you Aice, my song of streets and woods stuffed with an art of being a grandfather. Embracing Alice and Carlo. André Salmon La Hune (who awaits them) March 1968"].
