First edition, one of 30 numbered copies on vellum, the only deluxe copies. Handsome copy complete with its illustrated dust jacket which has two small stains on the back panel. The work, the author's second after "Jeux interdits", begins on February 6, 1934, the day of anti-parliamentary demonstrations outside the Chamber of Deputies in Paris that were organized by right-wing groups, veterans' associations and extreme right-wing leagues to protest against the dismissal of police prefect Jean Chiappe following the Stavisky affair.
