Manuscript letter dated and signed by Léonor Fini, 41 lines in black ink addressed to Gérard Leman from her residence in Saint Dyé sur Loire (Loire-et-Cher), on a recto-verso sheet of blue-tinted paper. Fold marks inherent to postal delivery, envelope included. Leonor Fini is satisfied with the recent exhibitions of her works and has even sent one of her catalogues to her correspondent: "Je vous envoie à part un petit livre-catalogue de la dernière exposition de peinture (fermée pour les fêtes, elle va se réouvrir le 8 janvier- les dessins sont toujours visibles dans l'autre galerie qui est ouverte) Les deux expositions ont eu un succès et une foule journalière assez étonnant..." (I am sending you separately a small catalogue-book from the latest painting exhibition (closed for the holidays, it will reopen on January 8th - the drawings are still visible in the other gallery which is open) Both exhibitions have had success and quite astonishing daily crowds...) She rejoices in the provincial public's enthusiasm for her works: "Visiblement les gens ont assez de la mon peinture qui envahissait Paris..." (Visibly people have had enough of my painting that was invading Paris...) but takes offense at the gossip spread by the Parisian intellectual microcosm concerning her, jealous of her popular triumph: "Et cela amène de "vengeances" plus ou moins conscientes - le fait par exemple - que dans le chapeau de l'article de Lanoux on me vielli de bonnes 20 ans ! En plus je déteste la nomination "Grande dame" je ne suis la grande dame de rien et de personne. Je suis autre chose..." (And this brings about more or less conscious "vengeances" - the fact for example - that in the header of Lanoux's article they age me by a good 20 years! Moreover I hate the designation "Grande dame" I am the grande dame of nothing and no one. I am something else...) She also complains about the quality of reproductions of her works in certain catalogues and the lack of professionalism of publishers: "Je vous préviens que dans le petit catalogue les couleurs trop vertes sont fausses. Ce sont des gris bleutés - légèrement verts parfois. En outre, les reproductions parfois mal coupés. La hâte de l'exécution - le "ni du fautisme" galopant est en la cause..." (I warn you that in the small catalogue the colors that are too green are false. They are bluish grays - slightly green sometimes. Moreover, the reproductions sometimes poorly cropped. The haste of execution - the galloping "ni du fautisme" is the cause...) Finally, Leonor Fini, in order to temper her discontent regarding the Parisian intelligentsia, offers an affectionate: "Bonne année - portez vous bien" (Happy New Year - take care of yourself) to her friend.
