First edition, extracted from the first installment of the Description of Egypt, section: Antiquities, Memoirs. Numerous footnotes. A table representing the metric system of the Egyptians under the Ptolemies. Full cream parchmented modern paper boards. Black sheep title-label with gilt title. Very fine condition, as the copy is as issued, with full margins, on laid paper. The memoir traces the research of the nilometer on Elephantine Island, its description and function, as well as the importance of the discovery, since this nilometer, in addition to providing a history of Nile floods, was used to raise and measure the pyramids. The author infers from this a reflection on the metric system of the Egyptians and the ancients.
