New edition, rare. The first edition appears to have been published in Coimbra in Portuguese in 1549.
Contemporary full vellum binding. Smooth spine with pen-and-ink title, added later. Traces of ties. Small lacks to spine, along the joints. The title inscription has been written upside down in relation to the binding orientation. Some scattered foxing, notably to title page.
Last edition published during the author's lifetime; he died in 1586 at the age of 94 in Rome. Principal work in which Navarrus The Manual for Confessors and Penitents establishes moral casuistry. Among the greatest intellectuals of his time and illustrious representative of the University of Salamanca, Azpilcueta taught at Toulouse, Cahors, Coimbra and Salamanca. He was also a recognized jurist and economist, widely consulted by the authorities.
