First edition illustrated with a small headpiece. Contemporary binding in half speckled sheep, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons, paste-paper boards. Two small wormholes at the joints and some rubbing. Some marginal foxing spots and minimal worming in lower margin without touching the text at end of volume. Provenance: from the library of Pierre Louÿs with his bookplate in the form of a red stamp reproducing his signature on the half-title page. Ex-libris stamps "B. Grandmaison" on the title page. "This work is nothing other than the history of the Revolution put into dialogue. The plot is taken from the Pucelle, from Tasso and from the Lutrin; one sometimes encounters burlesque scenes." (Feuille de correspondance du libraire, 1791)
