Contemporary eighteenth-century limp vellum binding with flaps. Smooth spine. 2 title labels: one in beige morocco, the second in black morocco. Spine soiled and darkened. Stains to boards. First title leaf discreetly restored to lower margin. Particularly fresh copy.
Edition prepared by Oratio Toscanella. Very interesting preliminary chapters on festivals in Antiquity, military organization, penal colonies, the navy, measurements, months, colors, first names. Each life by Plutarch is introduced and annotated. The whole forms an analytical repertoire of Plutarch's Lives.
