Printer's compass device on title page and on verso of last leaf of the works of Tacitus and Velleius Paterculus. Title page in red and black. Numerous and large tailpieces. A specific title page after the works of Tacitus: Iusti Lipsi Dispunctio notarum Mirandulani codicis ad Corn. Tacitum. Contemporary full marbled brown sheep binding. Spine with raised bands decorated with grotesque compartments. Restoration at head (a strip of brown sheep), at bands and corners. Upper joint split at head and tail. Lower joint open at tail. Browning. The works of Tacitus include: Annalium, ab excessu augusti, libri XVI (The Annals, up to Augustus); Historiarum, ab excessu Nronis, libri V (History, up to Nero); De moribus Germanorum (Germania); De vita Iulij Agricola, liber I (The Life of Agricola); Dialogus, de causis corruptae eloquentiae (Dialogue on Oratory). Justus Lipsius's literal commentaries are distributed under the text, at mid-page (numerous passages in Greek). Justus Lipsius died in 1506 in Louvain where he taught, he excelled in all branches he cultivated, philology, philosophy, history. He is one of the last representatives of humanism as evidenced by this edition of the works of Tacitus and Velleius Paterculus.
