Marco Ristic is in France and Paul Eluard is burning to meet him: "Needless to say my impatience to see you again, but I knew you were busy upon your arrival and, for a month, I have been bedridden." even if his job does not allow him to do so immediately: "Up yesterday, I must leave tomorrow morning for Brussels... [...] I would very much like you to telephone me so that we can make an appointment."

A moving dedication from poet to poet, written on the eve of the war during which the two friends would contribute together to poetic resistance journals such as l'Honneur des poètes.
The deportation and death of Fondane in 1944, along with many other artist and poet friends, would profoundly affect Éluard, who composed in their memory a magnificent poetic tribute, "Eternité de ceux que je n'ai pas revus," listing the names of each of the departed:

Spectacularly bound in black calf by Pierre-Lucien Martin, the covers inlaid with white and grey calf with a geometric decoration of gilt fillets making perspective shapes, endpapers and pastedowns of Auvergne paper, the delicate Auvergne paper covers and back preserved, top edge gilt. Slipcase with black paper flaps, lined with grey felt and with a spine of rhodoid plastic (small crack to head), trimmed with black calf and with a brown paper interior.
