Edition published in Paris by A. Nepveu in 1815, in six small octavo volumes, illustrated with 54 hand-coloured plates depicting twelve views, more than sixty different costumes, monuments and various picturesque scenes, including bullfights, most of them after drawings made in 1809 and 1810. Cf. Colas 439; Lipperheide 1214, the latter reference still requiring direct verification in the printed bibliography; Brunet I, 1226, no. 3; Quérard I, 506. The title itself calls for the 54 plates and records the recent origin of many of their designs.

A pictorial and unusual inscription signed by Picasso on the front page of a Nice newspaper celebrating his 78th birthday: “For Max Pellequer / his friend / Picasso”. A beautiful testimony of friendship in an important political newspaper which featured many of the artist's original creations.
Rare first edition constituting a denunciation of bullfighting by René-Marie-Alexandre de Sémallé (1822-1894), geographer chiefly known for his contributions to the "Bulletin de la Société de géographie" between 1868 and 1883.
Contemporary aubergine half sheep, smooth spine ruled in gilt with double fillets, a few rubs to the spine, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, trace of a removed bookplate to one pastedown, wrappers preserved, contemporary binding.
