Contemporary full dark blue morocco binding, spine slightly darkened with five raised bands decorated with star motifs, joints cracked at head and foot, covers decorated with a frame of gilt stars and a central plaque, fabric endpapers and pastedowns, gilt fillet and stars framing the pastedowns, top edge gilt on deckled edges, morocco-edged slipcase, binding signed by Kieffer.
The work is illustrated with wood engravings by Robert Bonfils.
Provenance: from the library of Moïse Lévi (or Lévy) de Benzion, important collector and bibliophile, with his Egyptianizing bookplate engraved on a leaf bound at the beginning of the work.
