Half dark green cloth binding, title and author's name gilt to spine, "S de B [Société de Biologie] at foot, marbled paper boards, contemporary binding.
Leaves lightly warped, pale dampstain at foot affecting all leaves, more pronounced on pp. 23 to 35. One restoration to verso of last leaf, which shows small tears with minute losses in lower right corner.

First edition of this thesis defended on March 19, 1860 at the Faculty of Medicine of Paris for obtaining the degree of doctor;
