First edition of these travel recollections, written in the form of letters in prose and verse addressed to Saintine, friend and collaborator of the playwright Jacques Ancelot (1794-1854), who had accompanied Marshal Marmont to the festivities marking the coronation of Tsar Nicholas I.

Contemporary quarter blond calf with small green corners, smooth spine decorated with blind fillets and ornaments and gilt decorative rolls at head and foot, green calf lettering-piece, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, marbled edges; binding signed Thouvenin at foot of spine.

Contemporary full bronze calf, spine with four raised bands lavishly decorated in gilt with fillets and dentelles and with blind-stamped tools in the compartments, sides with large blind-stamped panels composed of an elaborate frame of dentelles and fillets, four corner rosettes, and a central lozenge-shaped cartouche ornamented with gilt arabesques and rosettes, corners bumped, gilt rolls to the edges and turn-ins, gilt dentelle border to the pastedowns, a few scuffs, all edges gilt, strictly contemporary binding, signed Martin.

Our copy is complete with the frontispiece and the facsimile of the signatures of Molière and his daughter.

Half cherry calf binding, spine with four raised bands framed with gilt garlands, decorated with blind and gilt tooling, gilt rolls at head and tail, black morocco title-piece, marbled paper boards, endpapers and pastedowns, marbled edges, contemporary binding.

Some light foxing, blind-stamped ex-libris of Giannalisa Feltrinelli at foot of first endpaper. Repair to the outer margin of the last two leaves, not affecting the text.
