First edition, which we owe to Samuel Formey. An allegorical frontispiece repeated in both volumes. Title pages in red and black.
Contemporary full brown sheep bindings. Raised band spines decorated. Although similar, the bindings are not identical: the tools are somewhat different and the labels are in havana morocco for the second volume and not red, as for the first volume; the second volume also bears a triple fillet frame on the boards. Split headcaps. Upper joints cracked at head and foot. 6 corners slightly bumped.
