Half navy blue shagreen binding, spine with five fine raised bands decorated with black fillets, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, speckled edges, corners very slightly bumped.
Handsome interior condition almost entirely free of foxing.

First Belgian edition, one year after the first edition.
Binding half shagreen red back with four nerves set with golden dots adorned with double gilded boxes and gilded typographic florets, small traces of friction on the upper cap, chestnut cardboard plates, guards and contreplats of handmade paper, corners very slightly blunted.
Signed autograph from Sainte-Beuve to Ulysse Marcillac next to the title page of the first volume.
