Half black shagreen bindings, spines with four raised bands decorated with blind double compartments, traces of rubbing to spines, traces of library shelf labels at head of spines, black paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, speckled edges.
Foxing, gift inscriptions in pen at head of half-title pages, it appears that an endpaper has been torn at the beginning of each volume.
Another particularity of our copy: numerous blank leaves have been bound at the end of each volume, certainly intended to contain manuscript observations from a previous owner.
