S. n. • de l'imprimerie d'Egron|à Paris • et à Londres [London] 1800|12.50 x 21 cm|2 parties reliées en un volume
Vasselier's Poésies appear to have had several editions at the same date, this one is considered the first. Unsigned portrait of the author as frontispiece.
Near-contemporary binding, Restoration period, in full brown calf signed Thouvenin. Spine with five raised bands richly decorated with gilt dentelles and fillets, as well as blind-tooled fleurons in the compartments and a black morocco title label. Blind dentelle, black fillet and gilt cornerpieces framing the boards. Joints slightly cracked. Foxing on the endpapers, frontispiece and opening and closing leaves.
Works of a minor Lyonnais poet of the late 18th century in the tradition of Grécourt, apparently director of the Post Office; Viollet Le Duc describes him thus: "His style is pure and elegant", "his tales, though too free, are nevertheless quite charming".
