Binders half red shagreen with corners, back with five nerves set with gold threads adorned with triple gilded boxes decorated in angles of black romantic arabesques, dates and golden friezes tails, marbled paper plates, guards and contreplats of handmade paper, three blankets and spine preserved (four courses with small marginal gaps), an upper corner of the third volume blunt, golden head. Our copy is enriched with an autograph note signed by Victor Hugo Mery, brother of novelist Joseph Mery: "Dear Mery, thank your brother I will write it after reading it, but before I speak to the minister as I tell you.. Luther to Melanchthon: frater tuus frater meus, you Victor Hugo Friday 29. ".. The autograph ticket is mounted on tab and placed at the head of the third volume and accompanied by a bookseller description tag mounted on the ticket foot tab. Pleasant copy established in uniform binding.

Stahl, among others. Contemporary Romantic green shagreen, spine richly gilt with Rocaille tools and gilt fleurons, large frame of fillets and gilt tools to covers, sizeable blindstamped tool to covers, pastedowns with gilt roulette frame, endpapers and pastedowns of white moiré material (soiled), gilt fillet to edges of covers, all edges gilt. A remarkable copy with no spotting whatever in a significant contemporary Romantic binding.
Illustrated Edition. 111 drawings by Bennett and card. Catalog ultimately for the year 1886. Cardboard editor connected by Lenègre; special plaque by Souze. Cardboard told the silvery banner, or the ball to the rare purple. The cardboard was used only for the triple volume Sandorf. Beautiful first plate, the external beveled brod cleared. spine uniformly irradiated. A cut in the rear of the upper joint of 2cm. Second course with small white spots. Bottom right hand corner blunt. Good condition inside without freckles. Despite the obvious defects, desirable copy for its beautiful color combination, silver on a purple background. Sandorf is dedicated posthumously to Alexandre Dumas. Jules Verne tribute indeed in this novel the author of the Count of Monte Cristo ("In this book, I tried to Matthias Sandorf the Monte Cristo Extraordinary Voyages."); Sandorf was imprisoned and betrayed like him and his adventures retrace his revenge. The novel is set in the Mediterranean region of southern Europe.
