Dominique de COLONIA
Dictionnaire des livres jansénistes, ou qui favorisent le jansénisme.
Chez Jean-Baptiste Verdussen|à Anvers [Antwerp] 1752|9.50 x 16.50 cm|4 volumes reliés
New edition, the most complete version of this work originally published in 1722. This edition was expanded by Patouillet. One frontispiece.
Contemporary full blonde sheep binding. Smooth spine decorated. Red morocco title and volume labels. A lack at the foot of volume I. Headcap of volume IV worn. Overall rubbed. All 4 volumes bear a brown wax stain at the foot. Corners slightly bumped.
The lack of moderation by Dominique de Colonia in his compilation of the dictionary caused his book to be placed on the Index as early as 1749, the same happened with the additions by Louis Patouillet, applying the thesis of Jansenism to Catholic authors and even to Madame de Sévigné (an ample explanation of the pernicious influence of the Letters is given). Each dictionary entry is followed by a critique of the work and a summary. An index allows one to find all authors.
