    A very rare and handsome copy.

    Provenance: from the library of Dr. Lucien-Graux with his ex-libris mounted on a pastedown.

    First edition clandestinely printed in 175 copies on laid paper, each individually numbered.
     
    Bound in full mint green morocco, spine with five raised bands framed by black fillets, subtle restoration to spine colour, date gilt at foot, endpapers and pastedowns of combed paper, gilt fillet border on pastedowns, original wrappers and spine preserved, all edges gilt, chemise edged in mint green morocco, covers of cat's eye paper, white felt interior, an elegant binding signed by Alix.
     
    A very rare and handsome copy bound by one of the most distinguished binders of the second half of the twentieth century.

    Half brown sheep binding, spine with four raised bands decorated with gilt fleurons, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, contemporary binding.
    Signed autograph inscription from Oscar Méténier to Ernest Taylor: "... hommage affectueux du plus inexact, mais du plus dévoué des sécrétaires..." ["...affectionate tribute from the most inexact, but most devoted of secretaries..."]
    The last letters of each of these words: Taylor, plus and dévoué have been trimmed by the binder.

    Signed autograph inscription from Edouard Rod to Paul Ollendorff.
    Work illustrated with a portrait of the author by A. Descaves.

    New edition printed from Cazin's 1781 edition.
    Bradel binding in half midnight blue cloth, smooth spine decorated with a gilt fleuron, green morocco title-label, some surface wear and stains on boards, endpapers foxed. Work illustrated on the title page with an engraving by A. M. Lynen, as well as tailpieces and an initial letter.
    This work was condemned on May 19, 1815 and November 16, 1816; it contains the story of President Dubois, a non-conformist, which led the bookseller Merigot to the Bastille.
