    Publisher’s original illustrated cloth binding in full green percaline, signed Engel, smooth spine, featuring a large polychrome illustration heightened with gold and palladium by Souze extending across the spine and boards; the original front cover in colour preserved; all edges gilt.

    Rare and precious signed autograph inscription from Antoine de Latour "A monsieur Victor Hugo, hommage de tendre dévouement" ["To Monsieur Victor Hugo, tribute of tender devotion"]
    The inscription has been slightly trimmed, missing the last letter of the word dévouement.

    Rare and precious signed autograph inscription to Victor Hugo "... with the affectionate respects of the author..."
    Eugène Spuller, close friend and collaborator of Léon Gambetta, owed his political rise to Victor Hugo when Hugo chose him "to be his substitute in the senatorial elections of the Seine"...
