A Huguenot bookseller-publisher in Amsterdam, François Changuion (1694–1777) became burgher in March 1718 and was admitted as bookseller in April 1718 after apprenticeship with Emmanuel I Du Villard. Based on Kalverstraat (corner Jonge Roelensteeg; near Gapersteeg), he partnered with Du Villard until 1722, then issued imprints under his own name and in coalition with other Amsterdam publishers (e.g., Uytwerf). His name appears alone in imprints (“Chez François Changuion”, e.g. 1732) and in new titles catalogues (c. 1762). Authority files document activity through 1766; he died in 1777.

    Full brown sheep binding, smooth spine gilt-ruled and decorated with gilt compartments and floral tools, rubbing to the joints, gilt rolls on the head- and tailcaps partly dulled, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, gilt fillets on the board edges faint in places, red edges, a period binding.

    Some repairs to the spine.

    Pages 191 to 252 contain the "Mémoire historique sur les Indes Braves, et les Forbans François du Golfe de Darien".

    19th-century binding in red half morocco with corners, signed Bauzonnet. Spine with five raised bands richly decorated in the grotesque style. Double gilt fillet on the boards. Top edge gilt on deckled edges. Spine somewhat faded. Some marginal worming, otherwise a handsome copy.

    Bindings (contemporary, very slightly later) in full dark blue morocco signed Anguerrand, smooth spines decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons, as well as red morocco title labels, volume labels, date and place labels. Triple gilt fillet and fleurons framing the boards. Wide gilt dentelle framing the pastedowns. All edges gilt. Spines somewhat faded and some rubbing, otherwise fine copy.
