First French edition, the exceedingly rare first edition having been printed in Belgium five years earlier.

Contemporary half black shagreen binding, spine with five raised bands highlighted with gilt dotted rules and decorated with blind fillets, a slightly split joint at the head, a few scuffs to the spine, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers, speckled edges.

A small dampstain to the lower right corner of the title page.
