Pardon my non-french! You are all forgiven, you strange strangers who delight us with your torrents of tongue, your lexicons of legend, your diamonds of idiom. Let us relish the ripeness of your rhetoric, the wild, unheard-of wonders you weave, told in the tongue of Shakespeare, Goethe, Li Po, Dante, Cervantes, Khayyam, Sappho - or in the translations of Gide, Nerval, Judith Gauthier, Rivarol, Oudin, Toussaint, or Renée Vivien!

Our Great ModernsOur Great Moderns
Our Great Moderns

A traversal through the works of those who have been writing, imagining, and creating since the late twentieth century. This selection brings together pieces that mirror the shifts of an era — literary gestures, singular voices, new perspectives. Each book and object has been chosen to capture, through its material presence, the living imprint of our contemporaries.

An Amsterdam bookseller-publisher active in the late eighteenth century, D. J. Changuion (very likely Daniel Jean Changuion) appears on imprints from 1769–1770 onward (science, arts, literature), often in French for an international readership. He joined publishing partnerships—with Evert van Harrevelt a company contract was notarized on April, 24, 1771—and worked with P. den Hengst on library catalogues (notably Bolongaro-Crevenna, 1789). The house issued notable titles such as Nollet’s L’Art des expériences (Amsterdam, D. J. Changuion, 1770), literary classics (Télémaque), maps in association, and gaming compendia (Académie universelle des jeux). Activity is documented in 1789 (Posthumous Works of Frederick II, Amsterdam, D. J. Changuion) and as late as 1794 (joint reissue at The Hague).
Son of bookseller François Changuion.
