Author, printer-bookseller and administrator from Besançon, Claude-François Mourgeon (1764-1840) succeeded the widow Daclin (née Sainte-Agathe), whose workshop he took over through marriage (1806). A native of Besançon, son of Jean-Charles Mourgeon, attorney at the bailliage of Besançon. Appointed secretary-general of the district of Besançon on June 17, 1790, then procurator-syndic of the same district in November 1792. Dismissed in September 1793, imprisoned for several months during the Terror, then reinstated in November 1794, he was appointed dean of the prefectural council in 1800. Married in Besançon on March 20, 1806 to Jeanne-Louise de Sainte-Agathe (1764-18..), daughter of the Besançon printer Nicolas-Anne de Sainte-Agathe (1725-1781), and widow in first marriage of the printer-bookseller Jean-François Daclin. Under the Empire and then the Restoration, he held multiple official positions: printer to the Prefecture of Doubs (documented from 1809, in place for the Annuaire statistique du Doubs from 1812. Licensed as a printer on July 15, 1811 (license renewed June 3, 1819)), printer to the archbishopric (1813), then King's Printer (1817). The Mourgeon printing house sustained local administrative and economic life: posters, prefectural decrees, announcement newspapers (the Feuille d'affiches du Département du Doubs was attributed to him from 1812 to 1856, with subsequent continuity provided by his successors), as well as reports and yearbooks for the prefecture. Named knight of the Legion of Honor in 1815. Resigned on July 12, 1819 in favor of his wife, who took over the printing house and operated it until 1832. President of the Doubs chamber of commerce in 1838-1839. Died in Besançon in June 1840 according to the digitized civil records of Besançon.
