Half red shagreen binding with corners, spine with five raised bands showing minor rubbing, date gilt at foot, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, corners slightly bumped, top edge gilt.
Occasional light foxing.
Autograph inscription dated and signed by Eugène Dubois to his friend the poet Adolphe Napoléon Didron in the form of a quatrain and ending on the title page with this self-criticism by the author: "Dans ce petit livre, il y a neuf pièces sur dix à supprimer."
Our copy is enhanced with several corrections and manuscript additions by Eugène Dubois on pages 9, 37, 49, 50, 65 as well as important manuscript modifications on pages 78 and 87-88.
