Georgio BAGLIVI
Opera omnia medico - pratica, et anatomica
Sumptibus Anisson, & Joannis Posuel|Lugduni [Leiden] • (Lyon) 1704|17 x 23 cm|relié
First collected edition, bringing together for the first time the author's various treatises. A portrait frontispiece by Duflos; some woodcuts in the text in the treatise: De sanguine et respiratione; one plate showing two tarantulas in the De Tarentula.
Contemporary full brown sheep binding. Decorated spine with raised bands. Headcap worn. Corners bumped. Rubbing.
This publication has the profound interest of bringing together not only Baglivi's medical treatises, but also that on tarantulas and on the Rome earthquake of 1703. The importance of Baglivi's research in medicine was essentially to condemn the theory of humours and fluids dating from the ancients and to organize medicine around knowledge of organs and anatomy, notably in De fibra motrice. He was considered the leader of the Solidists.
