In 1981, André Dimanche founded Ryôan-ji, initially intending to create a series comprising fifteen titles by contemporary poets. Events, however, took a very different course, and the catalogue of Éditions André Dimanche has already far exceeded that original ambition. Publishing four or five titles a year, each in an edition of one thousand copies and invariably with covers designed by painters—André Dimanche also publishes artists’ books—the press is notable for its commitment to following the work of a select group of authors closely, rather than opting for a proliferation of names. Poetry, moreover, accounts for the greater part of its literary output.
Its publications include books by James Sacré, Jude Stéfan, Christian Tarting, Jean Tortel and Bernard Vargaftig…”
