Compagnon libraire chez Jean Fleuriau à Poitiers, il y fait l'objet d'une tentative d'assassinat de la part de 3 domestiques ; cède ses droits à réparation avant de quitter Poitiers (mai 1673). Établi de 1677 à 1679 à Nimègue, où il se marie. Éditeur des "Actes et mémoires des négociations de la paix de Nimègue" (Amsterdam - Nimègue, 1679-1680) puis de plusieurs autres recueils de traités de paix. Gendre en 3es noces du libraire d'Amsterdam Johannes Stichter.

    Contemporary full tawny calf binding, spine in five compartments ruled with gilt garlands and richly decorated with gilt tools, gilt rolls to the caps, a small loss at the foot of the spine, red morocco lettering-piece, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, gilt fillets to the edges, lower corners bumped, speckled edges, binding of the period.

    First collected edition. First issue copy with the 2 identical title fleurons, enriched with 2 frontispiece portraits by Holbent but engraved by 2 different artists. Furthermore, no edition of Marot's poetry is recorded between 1615 and this one. Edition that joins the Elzevier collection.
    Handsome edition, the most sought-after according to Brunet (III, 1458), who adds: "It is difficult to procure well-preserved copies with good margins and whose leaves do not have a reddish tint." Ours is of appreciable freshness with some very rare and very pale minimal foxing.

    Full marbled brown sheep binding. Raised band spine richly decorated. Red morocco title label. Edges gilt. Triple fillet frame on boards. Narrow split to upper joint at foot. Some rubbing. Some leaves with browning. Handsome copy in a quality binding.
    These memoirs, written by Chevalier Temple, who was ambassador of the King of England in Holland, begin as the author has just left his official functions; they concern the Dutch War from 1672 to 1678 and the Treaty of Nijmegen which ended it, a treaty which was favorable to France, then master of Europe's destiny.     Bindings (contemporary, very slightly later) in full dark blue morocco signed Anguerrand, smooth spines decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons, as well as red morocco title labels, volume labels, date and place labels.
