First edition illustrated with 126 plates, 103 of which are hand-colored, depicting military figures in uniforms (by Bellanger, Philipoteaux...). The work is completed with synoptic tables showing the organization of armies at various periods and summaries of each corps' campaigns, as well as chronological tables of combats, sieges and battles. Finally, an alphabetical list of military personnel of all ranks who received honorary weapons concludes the fourth and final volume of this handsome series.
Contemporary half-raspberry red shagreen binding with corners. Spine with false raised bands decorated with triple gilt fillets on the bands and thick black fillets between the bands. Decorative roll on boards and corners. Traces of rubbing, particularly on the boards. Corners rubbed with occasional paper losses. 3 corners slightly bumped. Several signatures protruding in each volume. The last 2 blank endpapers of volume 4 with losses. Clean set free from foxing but some signatures yellowed, notably some engravings.
