Contemporary full straight-grained red morocco binding, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons as well as a black morocco title-label, gilt fillet and roll-tooled border to covers, gilt roll-tooling on leading edges and headcaps, gilt decorative border surrounding endpapers and blue paper pastedowns. A handsome copy despite a small tear at head of upper cover.

Exupère de Bayeux or Saint Spire was the first bishop of Bayeux. In the 9th century, during the Norman invasions, his relics were transported from Bayeux to the château de Palluau, then, in the following century, to the collegiate church of Saint-Spire de Corbeil by Count Haymon.
