    Backstrip skewed and untitled, with a few losses and small tears to the board corners; light dampstaining at the head of the opening leaves, otherwise a clean and pleasing copy.

    The author served as a military intendant and published several concise monographs on fortification and military administration.

    First edition with four plates bound at the rear. On the last endpaper has been pasted a conversion table for timber from log to the sixth deduction.
    Contemporary binding in half brown calf, smooth spine decorated with double gilt fillets and a red paper title-label, brown paper boards showing some rubbing, all edges yellow. Scattered foxing.
    Handsome copy.
