    Half red morocco binding, gilt date on spine, marbled paper covers and endpapers. Original wrappers including the spine preserved. Set in an early 20th century binding signed by Alfred Farez.

    Our copy includes a two-page autograph letter dated and signed by Émile Zola to Octave Mirbeau. The author thanks him for the benevolent article he recently wrote about Germinal, while defending himself from being considered as the leader of Naturalism: “But why do you say that I...

    Half navy morocco over marbled paper boards Bradel binding by Alfred Farez, the spine slightly faded, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, covers and spine preserved.
    This copy complete with the 5 etching portraits of Charles Baudelaire by Edouard Manet, Gustave Courbet, Emile Deroy and Charles Baudelaire himself. Edouard Manet engraved the two of his, Félix Bracquemond the three others.

    Illustrated with a frontispiece, 26 plates hors texte and numerous vignettes in the text, engraved on wood by Bellenger after Léon Lhermitte, one of the great painters of rural life. Each plate - except the frontispiece - is protected by a captioned tissue guard.
