Half brown morocco binding with corners, smooth spine slightly faded decorated with a vertical gilt floral frieze enhanced with red mosaic morocco pieces forming petals, gilt fillet frame on marbled paper boards, combed paper endpapers and pastedowns, covers preserved, top edge gilt, contemporary binding signed David.
Spine and first cover slightly lightened.
Letter-preface by Gabriel Monod, work illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Doctor Lortet.
Handsome copy pleasingly bound.
