Contemporary full green crosshatched morocco binding. Smooth spine decorated with 5 mirror-image Restoration tools, series of triple gilt fillets and cold roulette. Cipher AD stamped in gilt on covers. Wide frame on covers composed of complex monastic tools in the corners. Rich interior border. Lemon endpapers. Gilt edges. One tear with loss along the upper joint. One corner slightly bumped, the others rubbed. Scattered browning.
Very fine copy.
This incredible translation was completed at age 13 and achieved great success when published upon the translator's death at 22. This work is found in numerous noble libraries because the completion of this translation by a 13-year-old pupil confirmed the superiority of the chosen education and noble birth.

Full speckled blonde calf binding, smooth spine decorated with armorial devices, gilt fillets and roulettes, red shagreen title-label, very fine blind-stamped fillet framing the boards, light scratch on second board, one corner slightly bumped, blue marbled endpapers and pastedowns, gilt roulette on edges, all edges speckled brown.
A few leaves browned, not serious.

Highly esteemed edition, provided by Sigibert Havercamp. His text, revised from several manuscripts and from the editio princeps, includes numerous notes. Deluxe paper copy.
Bindings (contemporary, very slightly later) in full dark blue morocco signed Anguerrand, smooth spines decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons, as well as red morocco title labels, volume labels, date and place labels. Triple gilt fillet and fleurons framing the boards. Wide gilt dentelle framing the pastedowns. All edges gilt. Spines somewhat faded and some rubbing, otherwise fine copy. Interesting detail that traces the life of this copy: the spines were updated to contemporary taste at the end of the 18th century; the title labels, in red morocco, were changed, some moved and the compartments, originally plain, were overworked with tooling from this same period.
It appears to be the copy that figured in the catalogue of the Lamoignon library of 1791 (II, n°4292).

Full navy long-grained morocco binding, later circa 1800, signed at foot R. P. Thouvenin. Joseph Thouvenin the younger was the elder of the more famous Thouvenin of the same name. This sober binding is in the taste of Bozérian. Raised spine decorated with 4 small fleurons, series of roulettes at foot. Fillet frame on covers. Edges gilt. Spine sunned turning green. Minor rubbing to headcaps, spine and covers. Tissue guards present. Title page and frontispiece with some foxing, some leaves more yellowed and scattered foxing (fairly rare).
Handsome copy in one of the first bindings by Thouvenin the younger.

These works of Sallust are a reprint of the Greek texts held by Aldo Manuce in Venice. The work is formed of two distinct parts, the first is a Latin translation, the second is composed of commentaries by Louis Carrion of Bruges and Sallust's texts in Greek. Louis Carrion was a specialist in the Greek language in the 16th century, he contributed to numerous editions. 16th-century editions of Sallust appear to be rare, only Oxford holds a similar copy, and only the Russian National Library holds 3 works prior to 1500.
