Our copy is enhanced with an exceptional autograph inscription, in English, by Maurice Sachs accompanying his two drawings representing a sphinx and a bear: "The Sphinx asked the Bear: who likes honey and trout, and candies and ginger ? We do, said the Big Bear, we bears. So the Sphinx changed into a bear and they lived happy together, 1934" ; Maurice Sachs's inscription continues in the lower left margin: "and for a pastime the Big Bear translated English stories into French stories and these are some that he gives to M. L. B. with much affection. M.S."
("Le Sphinx demanda à l'Ours : qui aime le miel et la truite, les bonbons et le gingembre ? Nous, dit le Gros Ours, nous les ours.
