Boivin & Cie|Paris 1916|12 x 18.50 cm|relié
First edition, with third edition statement.
Half orange morocco binding, smooth spine browned decorated with gilt typographical motifs, marbled paper boards, combed paper endpapers and pastedowns, covers preserved, top edge gilt.
On an endpaper, a visiting card of Edouard Herriot has been mounted on which he added these manuscript words: "Merci mon cher Richard, je vous lirai la plume à la main. Cordialement Edouard." ["Thank you my dear Richard, I will read you pen in hand. Cordially Edouard."]
Finally, we include two postcards dated December 8, 1918 addressed by Marius Richard to his father and representing two monuments of the city of Metz: the cathedral and the statue of Marshal Ney.
On the first, Marius Richard inscribed these historic words: "Souvenir de la réunion de Metz à la France" ["Souvenir of the reunion of Metz with France"], on the second: "Souvenir de la plus grande minute de tous les temps. Marius." ["Souvenir of the greatest moment of all time. Marius."]
A touching patriotic testimony immortalizing, in the full euphoria of the very recent armistice of November 11, 1918, the attachment of Alsace and part of Lorraine to France.
