Georges Blin, specialist in the works of Baudelaire and Stendhal, was an important literary critic and academic (he was part, notably with Vladimir Jankélévitch and Jean Wahl, of the jury that examined Emmanuel Lévinas's doctoral thesis, Totalité et infini, at the Sorbonne). He was also director of the Jacques Doucet Literary Library of the Universities of Paris (Sorbonne, 1961-1988), professor of the chair of Modern French Literature at the Collège de France (1965-1988) and honorary professor at the Collège de France.
