Full burgundy morocco binding, spine with six raised bands decorated with gilt fillets, gilt collection title and number at head and foot, pastedowns lined with burgundy box calf and framed in morocco, endpapers lined with burgundy box calf, original wrappers and spine preserved, top edge gilt over deckled edges, binding signed Charles Benoit. A fine copy perfectly executed.
First edition under Floury's reissue label, one of 240 numbered copies on England paper, the only deluxe copies with 32 Japan copies. Precious autograph inscription from Eugène Montfort to Octave Mirbeau. Two small lacks at head and foot of spine, a tiny marginal lack to front board, occasional worming affecting mainly the final endpaper, otherwise handsome interior condition.
