Contemporary full brown sheep binding. Ornamented spine with raised bands. Red morocco title-label. Headcap torn and tailcap damaged. Joint cracked at head and foot of upper cover.
Initially a magistrate then diplomat, Nicolas de Buzenval (1611-1679) received the diocese of Beauvais in 1650 where he showed great diligence and profound rigor, developing policies favorable to the poor. He quickly took up the cause of Jansenism and opposed Rome's ability to dictate conduct to a French bishop.
