Louis-Aimé MARTIN
Lettres à Sophie sur la physique, la chimie et l'histoire naturelle
Gide fils|Paris 1814|12 x 20 cm|deux volumes reliés
Fourth edition, with some parts in first edition, after the first edition published in 1810; illustrated with 5 figures.
Contemporary full brown glazed marbled calf bindings. Smooth spines decorated with typographical motifs and gilt friezes. Red morocco title labels, olive morocco volume labels. Gilt dotted frames and frieze on covers, yellow edges. Headcaps slightly rubbed, small scuffs on covers. Some light foxing of no great concern, a lack not touching the text at foot of page 456 of the first volume.
Drawing inspiration from the form used by Demoustier in Les Lettres sur la mythologie, Martin proposes an educational work on the sciences; moreover the pedagogical model predates Demoustier, and Martin demonstrates teaching without harshness, elegant.
